Hey Team, Below I have drafted an example of the notice that we need to place in the student portal advertising for students to participate in our city-country exchange. I think it might be worth us placing this same notice is the SALP Bulletin since I know that there are a large proportion of student ambassadors who are from overseas. Please note that this notice cannot actually be posted until we have confirmed the dates of our September trip to Loddon Shire (as well as our nominal dollar contribution). It seems reasonable that we remain aloof as to the dates of the reciprocal ‘Melbourne’ trip since it is some time off. Naomi and Vio – it would be appreciated if you could go about selecting the applicants. In keeping with the precepts of SALP, I feel that we should select applicants from a range of backgrounds as well as disciplines. Thank You Kathryn
Student Portal Notice
Student Ambassador Leadership Program (SALP) Project Group 4 is looking for students to participate in their pilot City-Country Exchange Program. The Exchange will occur between students of the University of Melbourne and students from secondary schools located within Loddon Shire, an area impacted by the flooding in Northern Victoria. It is anticipated that the exchange will take place sometime during the mid-semester break for a period of five days. Participants also need to be available for a short period in December when we’ll be hosting their exchange counterparts at the University of Melbourne. Some nominal dollar contribution will be required to help cover the costs of food and transport during the trip. Accomodation, entrance fees and all other expenses will be paid for. We ask students interested in our program to please send their curriculum vitae along with answers to the following questions to group4.salp2011@gmail.com.
Why do you want to participate in the City-Country Exchange Program?
What qualities and skills do you think you can bring to the program? What do you hope to gain?
What challenges do you believe you will encounter? (Think specifically about working as part of a team, the rural environment and a different cultural context).
Answers need not be longer than 200 words. Thank You SALP Group 4
Hi Everyone, here is the notice I drafted for the portal. Suggestions? I have left some stuff in italics, because I don't know the details. We can put this in the SALP bulletin too, and maybe add a photo? It's so big already though, I don't know if we need a photo to draw attention to it! Or if there are any limits on the size it can be- if that is the case I have some work to do! So get back to me, write your suggestions UNDER THE DRAFT by tomorrow, around 5 and then I will email it to Rita and on Thursday a might try and see if she is in her office and bug her about it :)
That's about it.

FantasticOpportunity to Participate in Loddon Valley-Melbourne University Exchange.
What? An exciting three day exchange in which students will experience the different industries in the Loddon Shire which range from olive growing, to native wild life to wine tasting (just to name a few!). There will be the opportunity to learn about country Victoria through the stories of residents and also the opportunity to take part in a forum with Boort P-12 College.
Why? After the devastating floods in January this year, the University of Melbourne established a partnership with the Loddon Shire and within this to assist the community's needs. As part of this, our SALP (Student Ambassador Leadership Program) group is aiming to create a stronger and more sustainable partnership between regional and urban Victoria., whilst giving people the opportunity to really experience the wealth of opportunities that the Loddon has to offer.
Who? We are looking for six students from the University of Melbourne. We are looking for conscientious students, who wish to broaden their horizons, experience the real country Victoria and who have a great sense of fun. Do we have any requirements? Ie- undergrad, degree
When? Wednesday, 21st September 2011 – Friday 23rdSeptember. Students should also be available for a reciprocal exchange in early December.
Where? Boort- the Loddon Valley. 214 kilometres away from Melbourne, the Loddon Valley covers an area of 6700 square kilometres, much of which is covered in farm land or unspoiled nature.
How Much? We ask for a nominal fee of $xxxx to secure your spot, however entry to attractions, accommodation and most meals will be paid for.
What you need to do! Apply! This is an exciting opportunity, not just because it will be an extremely exciting trip, but because it is the opportunity to participate in a growing partnership between the Loddon Shire and Melbourne University (not to mention you can put it on your resume!) Simply send your curriculum vitae along with your answers to the below questions (no more that 200 words) to Naomi and/or Vio at group4.salp2011@gmail.com by 5pm 11thAugust, 2011. We also welcome any queries through this email address.

Hey Team,
Here are my suggestions:
Probably we could make the deadline to be Friday 12th August at 5 pm instead of 11th August? Just to give them more time to submit and I think deadlines just look nicer if they’re on Fridays.
Probably the title can be made shorter and more catchy, like “Fantastic Exchange Opportunity in Mid-Semester Break!” I think it would be good to directly indicate the time of the exchange since participants might be immediately interested to know more about something that they can possibly do during the break.
When we said “no more than 200 words”, does it mean no more than 200 words per question or in total? I think we should indicate this more clearly.
Just a suggestion in advance, probably Naomi could handle any enquiries from people with email addresses starting with the alphabets A to M, and I will handle those that start from N to Z, and those addresses that start with numbers like 123prettyflowers@hotmail.com (for example).
I feel that there is still a lot of information lacking which probably are not possible to be covered in the portal. Like the fact that they are going to interact with Boort secondary students and the fact that they are going to participate in the reciprocal exchange. These info are already mentioned but I think that they will create great confusion as we are not giving them with further explanation. So I think that we should provide them with a document explaining about the project in greater detail, probably by creating a link (I’m not sure how – probably a link to a facebook note or something else) or just keeping the document ready when they express their interest in joining.
Should we also tell them that they should prepare something to talk to the students about their respective faculties? And can we have a short interactive session between the Uni and High school students so that the students can ask questions about the university? If yes, then I think the applicants have to have good confidence, acceptable public speaking skills, easy going, and probably reasonable academic records?
I thought that it might be good if we can combine some of Kathryn’s post with Naomi’s. The following is just my suggestion, please edit if there is anything that you don’t like:
Those that I have edited are indicated with Bolds. And the ones that I’m not sure of are indicated with Italics.
